Project Vadnagar is a 2D puzzle platformer created on the ASI excavation site of Vadnagar. The aim of the game was to create an initial 3 level game that can serve as a proof of concept for development of similar games for heritage sites across India. The game was developed in such a way that the difficulty poses challenges to players across different age groups. The puzzle and platforming sections are divided across the 3 levels, intermixed amongst different slow and fast sections. The fast sections are for the players to feel a thrill while navigating the environments while the slow sections serve as spaces for reflection, exploration and reading the journal.
The history is imparted through different interactions that are spewed across the three different levels and the artifacts that Chaitali discovers and uncovers. All of these are actual artifacts that ASI has discovered across the excavation seasons of 2018-2021 and have been created from the large monograph document that was shared to the team by the superintendent archaeologist of the Vadnagar excavation site, Dr. Abhijit Ambekar. The artifacts were then recreated in a hand-drawn animation style by the team. These are visible in the game and in the different journal entries
